I was born and raised in Langnau region of Emmental. Thanks to my parents, who are passionate nature photographers, I had early contact with photography.
Already in my childhood I was interested in creative work, among other things drawing and illustrating was my hobby at that time. Later in my school days, I added photography, which was still analogue at the time, and so I often had to spend my pocket money on developing the films.
I was fascinated by photography after a language stay in the USA followed by a round trip through the southwestern national parks – I bought my first SLR camera for further travel adventures.
The digital technology fascinates me and so I acquired over the years some knowledge and experience in self-study.
For a longer trip around the world in 2014 I bought a full format camera which still accompanies me today.
I work as a building services engineer in Bern. I use the free time to explore the nature and beauty of Switzerland and capture it with the camera. Often I spend days or weeks with the tent and backpack on journeys through the world. So “normal journeys” become adventures, often I leave the comfort zone to be at the right place for the right time.
How to work
My main focus is on nature photography. The creation of a nature photo is the result of hours or days waiting for the right light and the right mood – the perfect moment.
I often return to the same places, but the scene is always different. Nature is constantly changing, not only due to the seasons, but also to climate change, which causes familiar places to change over the years. Biodiversity and species diversity are declining. For me it is a challenge to capture nature in todays dress and in its uniqueness with the camera.
Many times I am also on the road during the night, searching for the darkest possible spots. If the light pollution is low, it is possible with todays technology to depict the night sky uniquely. In this way, pictures are created that have never been seen before.
However, the desired images do not always succeed at the first attempt, despite todays modern aids that help with planning and execution. It takes a lot of time, patience and luck to be at the right place at the right time.
